Typhoon Jebi in Japan, insured losses could reach 4.5 billion USD

Typhoon Jebi, which hit Japan on 4 September 2018, generated between 257 billion JPY (2.3 billion USD) and 502 billion JPY (4.5 billion USD) in insured losses, according to the estimates of AIR Worldwide, the US-based risk modeling company.

The typhoon struck the island of Shikoku, damaging the cities of Osaka and Kobe. This is the most violent typhoon in the last 25 years.

In addition to the damage to infrastructure and buildings, the hurricane caused a disruption of economic activities as a result of the paralysis of the railway transport system and the closure of Kansai airport.
