Towards the application of compulsory health insurance in the UAE

The authorities in Dubai have extended the period for compulsory health insurance. The entry date of the new legislation has been postponed from 31 December 2016 to 31 March 2017 for residents of Dubai.

For visitors to the emirate, this deadline has been extended to 31 December 2017. Failure to comply with the new obligation will be subject to a fine the amount of which has not been specified.

Apart from Abu Dhabi, which has its own compulsory insurance scheme, this legislation will gradually be extended to the other emirates of the country.
