Sporting events insurance in the UAE

The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) is making sports events insurance compulsory in the United Arab Emirates. This decision will be effective as of 1 September 2022.

The aim is to improve the level of organization of sporting events and to increase the number of participants.

The insurance policy must meet certain requirements, namely:

• it must be issued by a licensed insurance company or an insurer which has a branch in the UAE
• it must be issued in the name of the organizer of the sporting event and its coverage must be limited to the specific event
• it must cover all the venues where the event is held
• it must be effective starting from the date of the beginning of the preparations

Finally, the organizers must inform the participants of the content of the insurance contract.
