Road safety in 2019: Decline in speeding offences in the Emirates

speeding offencesThe United Arab Emirates recorded a 2.2% decrease in speeding offences in 2019. The number of fatalities recorded during the same year, amounted to 448 against 468 in 2018, thus decreasing by 4.2%.

Such decline goes back to improved traffic control measures, better roads and speed restrictions. In addition, the possibility of imprisonment for serious offences also contributes to the decrease in speed-related car crashes.

For the record, the most common offences in 2019 include: the use of mobile phones while driving, speeding, unfastened seat belts and running red lights.
