Petra Hielkema, new Chairperson of EIOPA

Petra Hielkema has been appointed Chairperson of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). She is replacing Gabriel Bernardino whose term of office is coming to an end. The appointment will take effect on 1 September 2021.

A Dutch national, P. Hielkema is a graduate of Erasmus University (Rotterdam) and INSEAD Business School (France). She started her career in 1997 with the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Kazakhstan as a senior consultant.

In 2007, P. Hielkema joined the Central Bank of the Netherlands where she held several senior positions during her 14 years of activity, most recently as Director of Insurance Supervision. Since March 2020, she also chairs the EIOPA's steering committee.
