Optimal retention level does not exist

AM Best submitted a survey on the companies’ own retention levels in the MENA region early October in Dubai. AM Best has revealed that there is no optimal retention level. Based on data compiled from 200 insurers of the region over a period stretching from 2006 to 2011, the agency deems that companies have to estimate their retention level according to their appetite for risks, their command over underwriting and their ability to manage their capital-risk. Several surveys have previously pointed to the poor retention level of countries of the zone.
