New Zealand floods: insurers receive over 10 000 claims

New Zealand's major insurers have received more than 10 000 claims for damage caused by the deadly severe storms and flooding in Auckland, one of New Zealand's major cities on the North Island.

The claims have been filed with Suncorp New Zealand, Insurance Australia Group (IAG New Zealand) and Tower Insurance.

Insurers are expecting a surge in claims and millions of dollars in property damage.

On 27 January 2023, torrential rains hit the city of Auckland causing severe flooding and landslides. Four deaths were reported, while thousands of people are still left without power.
