New regulations for South African insurance captives

The South African regulatory authority (FSCA) has published a document defining the new requirements for "cell captive insurers^*".

The FSCA has expressed concerns about potential conflicts of interest, regulatory arbitration as well as the structure and business models of captive insurers.

* Alternative system of «rent-a-captive», specific to the South African market.
