Munich Re steps away from the coal industry

Munich Re, the world's reinsurance leader, will no longer insure coal-fired power plants as well as coal mines in industrialized countries. The German reinsurer justifies its decision by the ongoing energy transition and the threat of global warming.

As a reminder, other European insurers and reinsurers, such as Swiss Re, Scor, Axa, Allianz and Generali, have already adopted the same position. Munich Re, will, nevertheless, continue to insure coal plants in emerging countries.
