Insurers have generated premiums worth 2.7 billion USD in 2009

The gross written premiums by all the United Arab Emirates' companies have reached 2.7 billion USD in 2009, that is a 5.3% increase in comparison with 2008. Companies based in Dubai have reported 47% of this figure while Abu Dhabi accounts for just 38% of the overall market. The remaining 15% are underwritten by the other emirates. The premiums' growth is above the inflation. The net profits have fallen in 2009 at 870 million AED (237 million USD), that is, a 25% decrease in comparison with 2008. The technical results amount to 12% of the gross written premiums in Abu Dhabi against 7% in Dubai.
