Insurers are becoming major players on the financial markets

With the growing success of unit or market linked insurance products, the sums collected and reinvested by reinsurers on the markets have increased considerably. The sector handles about 58 billion USD versus 44 billion for financial management funds. Insurers' operations have supported the Indian markets during the financial turmoil from January to March 2009.
