An insurance company manager sentenced to death

Chen Yi is the former manager of Shanghai Fanxin Insurance Agency. Taken into custody in August 2013, for embezzling 1.3 billion CNY (212 million USD), she has just been given a suspended death sentence.

She had marketed fake insurance contracts and wealth management products to thousands of customers with the help of an accomplice.

Chen Yi was arrested in the islands of Fiji where she fled with 830 000 EUR (1 008 972 USD) in cash and property.
The death sentence shall be substituted by life imprisonment if the prisoner behaves properly during the first two years of detention.
