Hurricane Fiona: heavy losses for Canadian insurers

ouragan FionaThe Insurance Bureau of Canada has indicated that the insured losses caused by hurricane Fiona are likely to reach 800 million CAD (594.903 million USD). This amount was estimated at 660 million CAD (490.795 million USD) in October 2022.

With wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h, the storm has severely hit the Canadian Atlantic coast and eastern Quebec on 24 September 2022. The disaster resulted in human casualties, torrential rains, large waves and widespread power blackouts.

It was the costliest weather event ever recorded in Atlantic Canada and the seventh most expensive catastrophe in the history of the entire country, in terms of insured losses.
