The Sendai High Court in Japan has ordered the government and the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to pay 1.01 billion JPY (9.5 million USD) in compensation to the 3 550 plaintiffs affected by the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe that occurred on 11 March 2011.
According to the judge, the government and Tepco failed to take the necessary preventive measures even though the threat of a major tsunami was predictable.
