Establishment of an insurance pool for nuclear risks

The UAE Insurance Authority is currently considering the creation of a pool for the insurance of nuclear risks. This initiative aims to increase local underwriting capacity in this sector.

Since 2008, the United Arab Emirates has signed a cooperation agreement with France on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Thus, construction works of the "Barakah" nuclear power plant were launched in 2009. The commissioning of the first reactor is scheduled for 2017.

Three more reactors will be completed in 2020. These units are expected to provide a quarter of the country's electricity consumption .
