Emirati insurers to deal with athletes' risk exposure

Many market professionals believe that Emirati insurers are not able to properly cover sports risks.

Clubs and players are not obliged to underwrite specific insurance contracts. If a plane carrying a professional football team, were to crash, it could lead to tremendous losses ranging between 50 to 100 million USD. Such amount cannot be covered by local insurance companies.

For the time being, the companies only cover health and athletes bodily injuries, in addition to insuring the players in the event of loss of salary following an injury during a competition.
