A drought insurance for the 2009/2010 agricultural campaign

On the occasion of a seminar held to discuss agricultural risks and climate hazards, Chérif Benhabylès, executive at Caisse Nationale de la Mutualité Agricole (CNMA) said that his firm is considering the possibility of introducing drought insurance as of the 2009/2010 agricultural campaign.
A first product will be for grain growing. With this product requiring substantial financial resources, support from public authorities tosubsidize it is indispensable. The involvement of specialist insurers will be equally needed. A joint CNMA-CCRcommittee is currently working on the project.
