Following the 2011 floods, the Thai market has gone through significant turmoil. Many insurers were no longer able to provide coverage for natural catastrophes while prices soared.

The National Catastrophy Insurance Fund (NCIF), established in March 2012, has allowed a return to normality. Insurance companies have increased their capacities, buying less reinsurance coverage from the NCIF. Seven insurers are marketing policies against natural events, retaining the most of the risks.
