Six insurers team up into a health microinsurance pool

Six Senegalese insurers, namely CNART Assurances, ASKIA Assurances, NSIA Senegal, CGA Assurance, Assurance Sécurité Sénégalaise and Salama have merged into a microinsurance pool dedicated to health.
Called "Pool micro-assurance santé" (PMAS), this product is designed for 80% of the population that does not have medical coverage. The PMAS, which is poised to cover 50% of the Senegalese by 2015, offers four microinsurance products for professional groups in the informal sector. The benefits offered include other surgical procedures, medical tests and health care.
