According to a study conducted by the rating agency Fitch, if the Bird Flu virus came to be transmitted to man, the number of deaths would reach 400 000 in Europe and 209 000 in the United States. According to this worst case scenario, the compensation bill would amount to 29.68 billion EUR (35.9 billion USD) in Europe and 14.9 billion USD in the United States.
