Index-based agricultural insurance

The Société Financière Internationale (SFI) is trying to push an index-based agricultural insurance in French-speaking Africa. This insurance will cover the insured against the occurrence of claims caused by natural or meteorological events by assessing the damages on a pre-defined basis related to index.

The SFI puts forth an exhaustive list of operational costs induced by this type of cover. Index-based insurance allows the sale of insurance policies in rural areas at very competitive prices.
