Creation of a national NatCat database in India

The Indian Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) is intent on setting up a national database on natural disasters, an entity tasked to supply accurate statistics on the frequency of weather events, loss costs and the number of people affected,… The analysis of the data provided will make it possible to map risks and limit investment in exposed areas.

NDMA reported that India is threatened by 30 kinds of natural catastrophes, the most devastating of which are droughts, floods, cyclones and earthquakes.
