942 million USD to insure the players of Real Madrid

Real Madrid have insured its entire team against premature retirement in the event of serious injury or death for a total amount of 942 million USD. The annual insurance premium paid by the club is 8.6 million USD. Both mega stars of Real, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are insured alone for 267 million USD (142 million USD for the Portuguese and 125 million USD for the British player). The premium for their insurance is 2.8 million out of the 8.6 million paid for the whole team.

Several brokers were contacted to underwrite these coverages with insurers whose names have not been disclosed.
